Yovisto is a new video search engine for educational videos and e-lectures. yovisto provides a social tagging function. You can register at yovisto and maintain your own online lecture collections, maintain an own user profile, make friends, choose your favorite video lecture, share lecture recordings and (!) you can tag videos.

  • What is yovisto?
    yovisto is an new video search engine for educational video content and will be helpful for students or common interested peoples to looking for online lectures and educational staff. yovisto allows searching within videos. Furthermore, there are many other features like: tagging, adding comments, discussing, interaction with other users, uploading videos and organising your videos, etc.
  • How do I use yovisto?
    yovisto can be used like any regular search engine. You can view the Tutorials in the Help Section to understand how to use features on the website.
  • I can't watch the videos properly!
    If the video jitters in the embedded player window in your browser, right-click on the video and change into Theatre Mode. Click on Extras-<Settings in the menu bar. A new window opens and on the left hand side, you will have different options. Click on Hardware and move the "compatibility with video card" slider from most powerful to most stable.
  • Why should I register at yovisto?
    To search and watch videos at yovisto, no registration is necessary. For using all services and features that yovisto offers, such as tagging, commentating, discussing, interaction with other users, uploading videos and organising your videos, you need to be registered.
  • What is tagging?
    Tagging is a function to add catchwords for categorising video files in our case. It makes sense to categorise your videos or video segments if you have lots of them. yovisto offers a time-based tagging function, which makes tagging even more useful.
  • Why should I tag?
    Tagging offers you the possibility to individualise the videos, which are interesting for you. It is possible to browse and search within your tags. It is also possible to share your tags with other users, either to all or to a special group, i.e. your friends. As a result it is easier for you and for others to find relevant marked video segments and interesting parts of a video.
  • After registering I have not received a confirmation email.
    First of all you should check your spam folder in your email account. It is very likely that the confirmation mail is dedicated to your spam folder. If this is not the case, it might be possible that your email provider has not delivered the email to your email account yet. If you have not received the confirmation email after a couple of hours, you may send us an short email at service@yovisto.com [Subject: Missing Confirmation Email] and we will activate your account manually.
  • I forgot my username/password. What do I do?
    If you forgot your password, click on "Login" and then on "Forgot your Username or Password?". You will ask for your email address, you have used when you registered at yovisto. An email will be send to you, with your login name and a reset link for your password. Please click on this link to set a new password you can remember. If you just forgot your username, you don't have to reset your password.
  • I am not able to login, what happened?
    If it is not possible for you to login, than you should check if you have verified your email address you have used during the registration process. As long as you don't have verified your email address it is not possible to login.
  • How can I change my email address / my name / my university /...?
    In the "myYovisto page", click on "edit my profile" and you can change most of your data, you have provided at the registration process or add some additional information about you, such as pictures, your favourite videos, university information and contact information.
  • I would like to delete my user account!
    We are very sorry that you will leave us. Maybe you can leave us some information why you want to delete your account. We take this very serious and will do almost everything to make your stay at yovisto as attractive as possible. If your wish to delete your account just click on the "delete account link" at the bottom of your myYovisto page.
  • How can I interact with other users?
    There are different ways to interact with other users. First you can tag and share this tags with others. You can message other users via the internal message system. It is also possible to discuss with others about a certain topic related to a specific video segment. You can open a discussion group or join a discussion group, i.e. with your learning group.
  • Can I sort the search results by myself?
    yovisto has a powerful sort engine. You can be sure that the top listed results are the most useful for your searched topic. By the time, we will connect your searched topics and the videos you have watched and will personalise your search results to make it more worthful for you.
  • I have suggestion and ideas. Where do I go?
    We are very happy about that. On the top right corner we have a feedback link, just let us know your ideas. We will screen them and if the screening was positive we will integrate YOUR ideas into the website.
  • I found a bug, how can I inform you about it?
    On the top right corner we have a feedback link where you can let us know of any bugs you find. We work 24/7 on our service and we would appreciate any help we get to making this service more efficient.
  • I would like to tell other people about you!
    You can invite people to yovisto, you can add banners to your webpage and you can link videos from your webpage or blog to yovisto. yovisto banners can be found here: www.yovisto.com/banner
  • Is it possible to download videos?
    It is not possible to download videos to your hard disk. But this is not necessary. All videos can be viewed through your browser. You can add the video to your favourites or forward the video to your friends.
  • How long does it take, till my video is online?
    It is depending on the video format and the used capacity of the system. Our aim is to set your video online with 2 hours. It might be possible that it take up to 48 hours.
  • How do I upload a video?
    Please view the "Upload Video" Tutorial in the Help section.
  • What does yovisto need to search within my videos?
    The data we need to make a video searchable is the video file and a PDF document with the slides showed in the lecture video. If you don't have a PDF document, you can add comments and tags for a video when you upload the video. Other users have also the possibility to tag your video and this information makes the video searchable.
  • How can I change my user name?
    It is not possible to change your user name. It is your ID in our system. If you want to change your user name it is possible to delete your account and open a new one. You have to insert your personalised data in your new user profile again.
  • Does other user see my email address?
    No for other users it is not possible to see your email address. If they want to contact you, they can do it via the yovisto internal mail system. You will receive an email if you have a new message from another user. It will be possible to make your email to your friends viewable. This option is not be implemented yet. We are working hard on it.
  • How does yovisto attempt to avoid the infringement of copyrights?
    We always check videos that are uploaded to our system if there is an infringement of copyrights. All users who upload videos are asked, if they are the holder of the copyright of the uploaded video.

    Many of the videos you can find at yovisto are streamed from the servers of the providing institution. Therefore these institutions and their authors are also responsible for copyright matters.
  • How do I report an infringement of copyrights?
    If you find a video that in your opinion is an infringement of copyrights email us at copyright@yovisto.com with the corresponding video ID.
  • What happens, when I am accused for infringement of copyrights?
    First of all, we will check, if the allegation is maintainable. If so, we will deactivate your videos and we will leave us open to deactivate your account, depending on the severity of the copyrights infringements.
  • Why does the video permanently stop, when it should play?
    There are two possible reasons:
    You are tagging. We designed your system in the way that the video stops when you click in the text field to add a tag. This is necessary to mark your tag with a time in the video because all your tags are time-based.
    The second reason is that either our streaming server or the streaming server of the providing organisation is not working on full capacity. If that happens, you can be assure that we already working hard on it.
  • It takes ages till my video is uploaded. Is there something wrong?
    It is very much depending on your internet connection speed. Upload speed is at almost very private internet connection far lower than the download speed. Depending on the size of the file, it is possible that the upload can take several minutes.
